She brings a thoughtful community-centered approach as she aims to help seasonal workers build connections that help to diversify their income and create year-round work. She designed the Guide Theory Collective as a network that connects seasonal workers and their skills to the needs of their communities and local businesses to develop meaningful work opportunities. Day in the Life: Spring is for Multi-Sport Days! Ski laps in the morning. Bike to set your shuttle. River in the afternoon. Climb until your hands are wrecked. No real schedule. No real rules. Just chasing weather, conditions, and whatever sounds fun. Spring in a ski town is a little unhinged…and kind of perfect. What would your perfect multi-sport day look like?

Ideal Off-Season: Rest days. Beach walks. Ocean swims. Journaling with a coffee. Freedom. Flexibility. Nowhere to be. A full reset. Reality: Moving. Repacking. Reorganizing your entire life. Gear everywhere. Half-finished to-do lists. Logistics on repeat. Packing lists. Moving plans. Loose ends everywhere. A lot of “figuring it out” in real time. The off-season isn’t always as dreamy as we imagine. Sometimes it’s messy, transitional, and a little chaotic. And sometimes…that’s exactly where you’re meant to be. Our fearless leader, Sasha, found her way to the outdoor industry after a career as a systems engineer and management consultant. She started by working in the office at Far Flung Adventures on the Rio Grande river and transitioned to teaching skiing at Taos Ski Valley the following winter. She found the work and lifestyle incredibly meaningful but quickly discovered how much people were navigating on their own. There were no clear resources for finances, healthcare, or long-term stability. So, instead of waiting for something to exist, she started building it herself. From leading workshops in the boat yard to founding Guide Theory, her focus has stayed the same: helping seasonal workers have more support, more options, and more stability. She now splits her time between Salt Lake City, Moab, and Taos, spending her free time in river canyons and at the ski hill. Her favorite adventure buddy is her dog Rango, who will follow her just about anywhere. She’s proof that a bit of grit and creativity can build something meaningful in this space.

The off-season creates space. And space creates clarity. This month’s tool: Values-Based Spending As things slow down, it’s a chance to step back and look at where your money is actually going and why. What feels aligned? What feels automatic? What can you eliminate, reduce, or adjust? One of our participants noticed she was spending a few hundred dollars a month on coffee and takeout without really thinking about it. At the same time, she wanted to travel, but wasn’t saving. So she made one simple shift: She kept her weekend coffee ritual, but cut back during the week and cooked more at home. This isn’t about cutting everything back. It’s about making more intentional decisions with what you keep. Let your values, not habits, lead the way. Take 10 minutes today to review your recent spending and choose one thing to adjust this week.

Erin is a year round snowsports instructor, supervisor, and trainer. She currently splits her time between Colorado and New Zealand. Before switching to the never summer lifestyle, she spent 9 years as a river guide, piecing together work in restaurants and as an environmental educator and trail crew member. She loves the communities she lives and works in and is passionate about coming up with creative solutions for the unique challenges that come with seasonal living. She has helped develop the Shoulder Season Series and is our current marketing lead. She puts together the newsletter and is currently working on developing Guide Theory's Instagram platform.
